Everett was born in Canton. He was a graduate of Case School of Applied Science, and the Akron College of Law. He began his career as a patent attorney with the firm of Frease and Bishop in Canton. In 1953, Everett moved to Akron and joined what was to become the firm of Ely, Fry and Hamilton. For several decades, Everett represented clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and litigated patent infringement cases in federal district and appeals courts, including the D.C. Circuit, the 2nd Circuit, 6th Circuit, 7th Circuit, and 8th Circuit Courts of Appeal.
